The inspiration for #dreamcometrueclient’s glam new office came from this sophisticated room

Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 11.06.04 PMposted on Elle Decor that made us go weak in the knees.  It’s chic and confident and effortlessly curated.  We loved the bright and crisp Madeline Weinrib pillows, the animal print X -bench ottomans, the lucite table…let’s just say we loved it all — and wanted it all.  But lusting aside, creating an equally swoon worthy office wasn’t as effortless as the style oozing from every stitch in this photo.

My biggest challenges with the office were the floor and the cork wall.  Both of which were totally fine on their own, but paired together and creating the focal point of the room, competed with one another instead of complimenting — and that made the eye see nothing but brown.  Not exactly the soft sophisticated palate we were going for.  And with all that warmth dominating the space, that beautiful soft yellow Jonathan Adler rug was out, I couldn’t add more yellow to an already overwhelmingly warm space.  3 rugs later, (I told you these things take time) this gorgeous sky blue Gabbeh rug caught my eye and worked its’ magic by softening the room and cooling it down, waaay down.

m office 6Sticking to the idea of lowering the room’s visual temperature,  I took 2 of the 3 remaining walls from a creamy sand to a truer white with Farrow & Ball’s All White  while the 4th wall got some easy up, easy down peel and stick wall paper from Target (yup, Target).

With the timeline already busted for this project I had zero days or hours for anything custom, and negative time for shipping, so I had to get creative and work my Amazon prime account and source in stock products from quick ship retailers and local suppliers. And that brings us to the office furniture, the existing black and metal pieces were updated with a softer, more “girl boss” worthy collection found locally at Scandinavian Designs, including the matching pedestal table.  I found the glass console at Living Spaces (delivered the next day!) along with the acrylic chairs.  The pair of animal print vanity stools tucked under the console is a DIY project

inspired by the lack of time I had to upholster anything, and the curtains were made by yours truly as well.  The four cream upholstered chairs I found on wayfair.com and finally, the finishing touches, HomeGoods, HomeGoods and more HomeGoods — all of which made me very very happy.
