Heads Up!

When the idea hit me to install a wall of faux animal heads in my friends showroom in downtown Los Angeles, I had no idea the buzz it would create — or the amount of inquiries I’d receive from that one faux frenzied wall.  What started out as an idea that percolated in my head for a few days expanded into the showroom’s show stopper, growing from 3 or 4 faux heads to an entire wall.  The more I thought about it, and all it’s possibilities, the more dedicated I became to the idea and the more elaborate both the wall and the heads became.  I think on the one hand I was having so much fun adorning the heads with flowers and yarns that I simply got carried away.  And on the other, I had this little whisper in my head and this little feeling in my gut that Nicole and I were on to something, and just stuck with it.  And I’m so thankful we did!

Not only does NiCasa have this stunning wall displaying jewelry unlike any other showroom in LA, but people remember it.  They remember the wall and in turn NiCasa, setting it apart in way that ultimately strengthens her business — and in turn, mine!   In fact, all of my current clients are referrals from Nicole and all of them want ‘the wall’ in one form or another!  And trust me when I say I’m oh so happy to oblige!  I’ve sort of turned it into my signature actually, placing at least one head in each of my clients spaces.  And as long as I can keep them fresh and relevant, I’m going to keep finding a way to display them in a herd or sneak in a solo – all in true messy by design fashion.

And to keep the ideas coming, there’s no shortage of imagination and inspiration on the world wide web.  Stunning interiors depict every creature in every color mounted to their perfectly manicured walls in an equal array of rooms.  Everything from nurseries and playrooms to bedrooms and ballrooms, there’s no discrimination, only clever interpretations and perfectly styled iterations.  And in case you haven’t noticed (how did you miss them in Target!), there’s no sign of the faux frenzy settling down any time soon!

So if you’re game, go ahead and pick your prey and give a the trend a try, at the very least they’ll keep you company!  But if you insist on remaining solo, you don’t need to miss out.  The rage isn’t confined to the walls, antlers have found their way into wedding bouquets, fire places, closets and of course, sitting pretty on coffee tables around the globe.

    

      

And if you still don’t want to commit full time to tacking Rudolph’s cousins to your wall, or placing antlers where you’d rather place your hot coco, just try it for the holidays and mark the season with some iconic cabin fever fauxs!  Add some ornaments and you’re Rudolph ready!
