There’s no denying that Mindy Kaling is bold, bright and committed, so it makes perfect sense that her new office is exactly the same.  It’s also fun, inviting and full of happy as far as the eye can see, like seriously deliriously happy spread over each and every inch of a perfectly curated home away home on the NBC lot.  Full of vibrant colors and rich textiles, it looks more like and in inviting living room you never want to leave rather than an actual office, but who’d complain about that!  If you can surround yourself with a space dripping with creativity and whimsy, then why not keep it polished while still being uber playful?  I mean seriously, there’s a pretty little ice cream sandwich pillow smirking at you while sitting on an equally pretty red chair!  And if that doesn’t scream joy what does?  domino mag MK

Designing her space with Nathan Turner, Kaling says she was ready to make a statement — and state they did: yellow couch, red chair —  those are some seriously dedicated choices on their own, combing all three, bold (and brilliant) in every way.

“I wanted a bold wallpaper.  It’s such a commitment, but I was ready for it!”  — Mindy Kaling domino magazine interview

Using furniture from Serena and Lily, as well as the perfectly patterned wallpaper chosen from their upscale offerings, you need more than bold ambition to pull off this office upgrade.  So in the spirit of Kaling’s new book set to be released in less than 2 weeks called Why Not Me?, I thought I’d ask the same and propose this question right back, why not you?  As in, why not style yourself happy and live in technicolor right along with Mindy without blowing the bank?

You can  — and here’s how I styled her snazzy new office with an everyday, everybody real life paycheck that nails the look for way way way (did I say way) less!  So now you too can be living, and maybe even managing, like Mindy!

And just to show you I’m serious, you can have this look no matter what your budget, I’ve pulled Screen Shot 2015-09-01 at 9.42.02 PMtogether the best of the web to do it on your dime, not Mindy’s or mine (which is no where close to Mindy’s but you get the idea).

Happy doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to inspire to do the job and there’s no price tag on inspiration — or at least not that I’m currently aware of!

And so I’ve rounded up all the best options at all the different price levels and have shared them via my Mindy’s Bold Office Upgrade board on Pinterest.  So if you want options, you’ve got em and if you get stuck, I’ve also included tips from Turner himself on the do’s and don’ts of office decor.  Happy weekend (almost) and happy decorating!
